It was a must-win match for the Capitals but they were blown away by the all-round brilliance of the highly-rated youngster Dewald Brevis. The right-hander fired an unbeaten 32-ball 73 batting at number five and stitched an unbroken partnership of 142 for the fourth wicket with another half-centurion Reeza Hendrickslodi casino.

This partnership fired MI Cape Town to a season-high total of 222/3 in 20 overs. Brevis then took an important wicket of a well-set Will Smeed to tilt the game decisively in the favour of MI Cape Town.

Earlier, Pretoria Capitals captain Kyle Verreynne had won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Supersport Park in Centurion.

However, the decision to bowl first did not prove to be right as MI Cape Town piled up a huge total thanks to Brevis' brilliance and Hendricks unbeaten 77 off 44 balls.

Chasing 223, the English pair of Will Jacks (39) and Will Smeed (52) played some shots but once they were dismissed, the target looked out of reach of the Capitals. Ashton Turner (22) and Keegan Lion Cachet (34) added some quick runs towards the end to shrink the margin of defeat and in 20 overs, the Capitals could only get to 195.

Captain Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers for MI Cape Town with two wickets for just 25 runs in four overs.

The win for MI Cape Town also confirms the top four teams of the tournament who will advance to the play-offs. With the Capitals now joining Durban Super Giants as the eliminated teams, only MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Joburg Super Kings and two-time defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape remain in the race for the trophy.
